Katarina began skating on ice when she was five. Her talent soon were evident and she was accepted into Karl-Marx Stadt's special schools. In this school, she met the coach of her choice, Jutta Muller. Witt made her mark in the second position she placed in the 1982 World Championships, held in Copenhagen. In the years since, Witt's grace and beauty have captured the interest of all. Olympic success at Sarajevo, in the Sarajevo Winter Games of 1984, Katarina Witz won the ladies' silver medal in figure skating after an intense contest. Her victory four years ago was a lot closer. The free skater was unable to win however, she took home the gold medal for the figure that was compulsory as well as her program was short. Witt became the women's first multiple winner in figure skating following Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame Witt competed in the Lillehammer Winter Games in 1994 following her successful run as an actress. Although she didn't win a medal, Witt impressed her spectators despite finishing seventh. Witt's induction into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame took place in 1995.
